Walgreens remains committed to conducting clinical trials despite CVS Health's decision to wind down its clinical trial services by the end of 2024. Both companies launched their clinical trial businesses in the last two years when the US FDA was seeking to enroll more Americans from underrepresented populations in clinical trials. CVS has been investing in other areas, such as adding physician-staffed clinics and practices and building a home care platform. Walgreens, on the other hand, has partnered with biotech firm Prothena to accelerate patient identification and recruitment for Alzheimer's disease treatment.
