CPhA’s 2021 Annual Report is now available. In the report, you can read about all the ways your association worked for you last year.

2021 The Year of Vaccinations

The Year of Vaccinations is probably the best way to describe 2021. Our members rose to the challenge and led the efforts across California to ensure that community members had access to COVID vaccinations and boosters. From volunteering at mass vaccination sites to calling patients to come and get ‘left-over’ doses of the vaccine, pharmacy professionals shouldered the burden and understood the urgency of the call to action.

SB 362 (Newman) – Community Pharmacies: Quotas

This bill prohibits the practice of imposing business quotas intended to increase corporate profit margins on the backs of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

AB 1064 (Fong) – Vaccinations

Expands the authority of a pharmacist to initiate and administer immunizations to include any vaccine approved or authorized by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and received an ACIP individual vaccine recommendation published by the CDC for persons 3 years of age and older. California is the first state to allow for this broad vaccination authority for pharmacists.

Awards Recipients

The California Pharmacists Association recognized at the Western Pharmacy Exchange 20 award recipients for outstanding contributions to the profession of pharmacy. The individuals and chapters celebrated are recognized for their lifelong support, innovative contributions, leadership, and mentorship to the profession and the community.

Elevating Patient Care

2021 offered many firsts for our members. Our student pharmacists learned to navigate a virtual world of professional training, our pharmacy technicians learned how to administer vaccinations, and our pharmacists learned how to continue providing high-quality patient services through a pandemic. Our CPhA staff continued to navigate the delivery of certificate training programs and increased the total number of offerings to meet the needs of our members. In 2021 we were able to certify 401 pharmacists and 291 pharmacy technicians to immunize, which means 692 new immunizers ready to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Developing Future Pharmacists

CPhA continues to invest in the future of our profession by delivering student focused events, benefits, and growing our Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) program. We were excited to have eight amazing student pharmacists join the CPhA team to train in Sacramento. In addition, we welcomed two new student chapters to the CPhA family, American University of Health Sciences and UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Corporate Partners

In 2021, CPhA’s Corporate Partnership Program ended the year with 37 Corporate Partners, an increase of 11 new partners over the previous year. Our partnership program continues to expand as the value of affiliation with CPhA is realized. Our members benefit from educational webinars, up-to-date communications, and with some partners, exclusive member benefits and discounts.

Treasurer Report

Despite the ongoing challenge of the pandemic, the California Pharmacists Association continued to stabilize its financial position and reported an operating surplus. These operating results show a significant turnaround from 2020’s reported loss from operations.
